Questions, and who to ask when the answer is not here.

Short answers for the people who start a referral, the dentists who answer one and the hospitals that appear here.

For anyone using a referral

I lost my link. What now?

If you started the referral from a desk, open the desk: it lists every referral you started. If you did not, the private link is the only key and nobody at iReferral can look it up, so start a new referral. If the dentist lost theirs, open your referral and choose Replace the dentist link, or have the dentist go to ireferral.org/r and type the hospital and the eight character code from the written order.

The code does not open anything.

Check that the hospital is the one named on the written order, then type the eight characters exactly as printed. Codes use letters and numbers but never 0, O, 1 or I, so spaces and dashes do not matter. After 40 tries in an hour from one connection the page asks you to wait. If it still fails, ask whoever sent the order for the link instead.

Who can see a referral?

Anyone holding the link. The starter and the dentist office each get their own link, so share each one only with the person it is for. There is no account, so there is no list of users to look through.

Does iReferral send messages or notify anyone?

No. It records status. The starter has to share the dentist link or the printed code, and each side checks the page to see where things stand.

Does it carry the dental report?

No. It records that a report was sent and received, plus the dentist's one-line finding picked from a fixed list. The report itself goes the way you already send it.

A stop is marked wrong. Can it be fixed?

Stops are marked by whoever holds the link and are not verified. If something was marked by mistake, the starter can cancel the referral or delete it and start a fresh one.

Ending, changing and deleting

How do I cancel or end a referral?

The starter can cancel it, or choose No longer needed and pick a reason. The dentist can decline with a reason, and the starter can reopen a declined referral. A closed referral stays closed.

How do I delete a referral?

The starter opens the referral and chooses Delete this referral now. It removes the record and the printed code at once.

How long is a referral kept?

A referral that is not closed stops counting as active 90 days after it was started, or 30 days after the needed by date, the visit date or the treatment date, whichever is latest. Finished referrals show on a desk for 14 days and are kept for 90. You can delete one any time.

Can I change the hospital or the date after starting?

Not on the same referral. Cancel it and start a new one, which takes about a minute.

Privacy and safety

I typed a patient name by mistake.

Delete the referral now, then start a new one without it. If you put it in an email to us, tell us the date and we will delete the email. Please do not send patient details to us in any message.

Is a patient's information stored?

No names, contact details or notes are asked for. Every field is a pick list, a date, a hospital or a short code, and the short question box refuses obvious numbers, dates and email addresses. See the privacy page for the full list of what is stored.

Does it work with my practice software?

There is nothing to connect. The dentist answers from a link or a code in any browser.

Hospitals and listings

How do I claim, correct or remove my hospital's page?

Email eric@hsfm.co from a hospital address. Corrections and removals are done on request, and claims are set by hand after we confirm with the hospital.

What does Closed mean?

The requester confirmed the report arrived. It does not mean anyone is cleared for treatment. The treating physician decides that.

Still stuck?

Email eric@hsfm.co and say what you were trying to do and what you saw. Do not include any patient details. We read every message, and a question that comes up twice becomes an answer on this page.
